Subtitling Hell

Hi.... sorry I'm so MIA. I've finally gotten the Chinese subtitles back for 0506HK and am subtitling it on my Final Cut Pro. It's taking so much time...

And in the midst of all that my Dual G5 Mac died! Yes it just died... it would cost me over USD$1,500 to replace the mother board & processor... so I ended up getting a refurbished G5 and continued working.

Cutting Away

I have been focused on cutting my short documentary "A Chinese Class" which I plan to have it clocked in around 20 minutes. It will be a companion short to my other documentary 0506HK, both of which explore the theme of cultural belonging.

Everytime you write a scrīpt or edit a movie, after you have finished a happy first draft or first cut, you know there will be a time that you'll nee...Read more

0506HK Keyart Design

This is the preliminary key art design for my documentary 0506HK by a Hong Kong graphic artist named Kim Lo. I like it quite a bit.

Safari in Alhambra

No, I didn't actually go safari hunting. I was shopping at one of the coolest pop art galleries called Nucleus in Alhambra and ended up finding a wonderful piece to put above my fireplace. It's a plush rhinoceros head titled "Florence" made by an artist called T&A. T&A designs one-of-a-kind plush art pieces and I am immedia...Read more

Illuminated Handbag

I was out at the Abbey Friday night and saw this girl with an illuminated handbag. I thought it was the coolest thing and asked her about it. She turned out to be Joyce Francis, the very artist who designed it. I wish I were a girl. It was a scene-stealer for a girl even at a gay bar! It's called "Iced Honey," a hard shell handbag, sold for USD$1,200 at Blue Tree in New York. It's one of Pho...Read more

L.A. on Foot

This morning, I went to Kaiser to meet my new doctor for the first time, got 6 tubes of blood drawn for a physical, and dropped off my car for a check up in Koreatown. My mechanic said it would take a day or so. I debated if I should rent a car as Enterprise was only 2 blocks away. I decided against my typical L.A. princess instinct and took the bus.

I got on the bus almost immediately on Western Ave. It was a Metro express to Hollywood. I got off around Western and Hollywood and walked back home. As I walked along Hollywood blvd. by Tha...Read more

Stop Doing the Hollywood Thing!

"Stop doing the Hollywood thing!" yelled my hip hop instructor at the Edge today. He mocked our half-hearted applause at the our fellow students. Clap like you feel it,he meant, and stop being such a fake.

If there's anything I've learned from class today, it would be being sincere.

Stop faking the moves, just do them and feel the music... I kept telling mys...Read more

Responding to 0506HK

A few days after the screening, Chris Chiu from Vancouver wrote me, "I was one of the participants in the screening of 0506HK on Friday.  I am very happy that somebody has finally made a film about the identity tension (or crisis) which many of us HK immigrants face when we are in our 20's and 30's.  This makes your film unique because this is the only documentary that I am aware of whic...Read more
