A Green Day's Night

I heard Green Day's new album at Warner Music Office today.

21st Century Breakdown is an even further departure from their Berkeley pop-punk sound. The Kerrplunk/Dookie sound is no more.

Green Day is now full out stadium rock. Think Foo Fighters. Think U2. Think Queen.

I was disappointed initially. But you know...BIllie Joe hasn't completely turned his back. There's stil their side band the Foxboro Hot Tubs. That was some catchy Dookie style fun.

The first single, Know Your Enemy, doesn'...Read more

April 20th Chicago/Boston

The Bulls/Celtics series is shaping up to be a classic. After a thrilling game 1, game 2 one upped it by giving us a anything-you-can-do-i-can-do-better shootout between Ben Gordon and Ray Allen in the final minutes. Go to espn.com and watch the highlights, both guys were hitting ridiculous shots in the final 3 minutes. Ray ray's game winning three pointer is especially sick--that's actually not a good shot because it was so well-contested. If it didn't go in people woulda said he forced it (he coulda pump faked Joakim N...Read more

Larry Legend

I’m reading the Jan issue of Esquire (the one with The Man With No Name on the cover). The feature story is “What I’ve Learned: Lessons From 50 States”. It’s 50 celebrities, one from each state, talking about their careers and principles.

There’s Clint Eastwood, Eminem, Jesse Jackson, Paris Hilton, etc.

What they did with the profile was they’d list the dude’s name, followed by age and occupation.

it’d be: “Clint Eastwood, 78, Actor/Director”

“Chuck Klosterman, 36, Writer”

“Wayne Newton, 63, Singer”

California Dreaming

The NBA playoffs started yesterday at 10pm. For the first time in years, I forgot about it and was only aware it started when I got home at 3am that night.

"Dude the Celtics/Bulls game is insane man," said my friend Marvin Lee, AKA THE TRUE LAKER FAN ( not like these bandwagon asscats who jump on because of Kobe) via AIM.

Back and forth game. Ty Thomas finds his J out of the blue and hits the Cs left and right, top to bottom. D Rose drops 36 and 11. Tied the highest point total for a first playoff outing record ...Read more

Why Sports Guy Why?

After slacking off too much last week at the office--spent the days chatting with FEATURES WRITER--the work load has come back and bit me in the ass. Today, for the first time in, maybe ever, I showed up to work on time and actually worked most of the day.

I had to take a break to go eat dinner because at Steak Expert, there's this special baby back ribs special...only 59 bucks for a slab of ribs!!!! Needless to say, it was the greatest 59 dollars I've ever spent in my life.

Anyway, after filling myself with ribs...Read more

There are no clean getaways...

No Country For Old Men was the best film of 2007, or 2008, whichever way you wanna call it (It was released 07 in the states and 08 in Hong Kong). It's probably on the short list of the greatest films this decade. The thing is an instant classic that requires multiple viewings to absorb it all. I had been wanting to read the original Cormac McCarthy novel for some time but haven't gotten around to it because I'm too busy reading crap like WWTDD.com.

Today I was at the book store and I had a chance to read a...Read more
