Got a couple of shots that Jesse captured of the photo shoot with Thrasher that give some added perspective on the skateboarding entry I posted last week. Check it out.*
*No harm came to any photographers in the pursuit of these photographs.
Whoops, this took awhile to put up. This is some video from the karaoke night a couple of weeks ago. I expect we will be hearing from the remaining band members of Queen any day now asking us to at least be backup singers. That, or a cease and desist order.

It was brought to my attention on Friday from several AnD staff that it would be bad form for me to be in Hong Kong on Saturday and not show up at the Pat Lee performance. So, we showed up around 6:30 in the evening, and things were well under way. It looked like there were a couple hundred people on the sidewalk watching Pat work while someone was spinning the beats from inside. Undaunted by the rain, people crowded round to enjoy this master at work. Read more
Not only was the Triple J/Alive Not Dead photo exhibition a sucess, the Shenzhen Dailly ran a full page color story with lots of photos from the event and the artists. In case you missed it, the photographers are Ivy Lam, Berton Chang, Read more
Do you know Thrasher? We've been friends now for about six months. I knew he could skateboard, but we never really talked about it. He's not one to brag. Thrasher owns a skate shop in Shenzhen, not far from my studio. I began to suspect he was better than average when I found out that Quicksilver still sponsors him, even though he no longer competes.
Today, my friend Jesse invited me to go surfing. Okay, he was going surf and I was set on taking photos. No waves. So Jesse suggested we skate with T...Read more
What happens when five Alive Not Dead artists bring their best to The Triple J Cafe in Shenzhen? An awesome night of photographs, music, food, drink and great friends. We thought it was time for AnD to spread some of the love across the boarder and Shenzhen was not disappointed. Ivy Lam, Berton Chang, Ohm Phanphiroj and Christopher Lay (hey, that's me) supplied the images while Dirtstar rocked the house to cap off the opening night of the On the Street Exhibition. The photos will be up for two weeks, so if you are going to be aroun...Read more
I've been pondering some new ways to play in the dark with a camera. I know what you are thinking, "Flash tag was so much fun, but I kept running into trees, poles and oncoming traffic." No, I'm looking at my tripod and thinking it needs some dusting off and use before it rusts into place. The worst of the cold weather seems to have passed and so the time seems right for some night photography. But this time, I've light graffiti in mind. I could write out a long boring explanation for you - really I could - however, ...Read more
Although I generally do not seek out such early morning activity, I thought the truth should be told so that you are all informed. The sun does rise here in the east and this is how it gets done.
Yikes! What happened? I went to Hong Kong for the day on Saturday to meet up with Mark and help him move into his sweet new pad on the 56th floor of wherever it is that his new place is - as if I know Hong Kong. We have a curry, we hook up with some AnD people and artists for some Karaoke - good times - and I headed back to Shenzhen. Got in around 2am. In bed - and feeling woozy - around 3. Up and sick by 4. Whee. Slept most of Sunday and Monday. Much improved today. Will post something worthy soon. I guess my system just ca...Read more
I keep my eye out for interesting things in English here in China; what else can I do since I don't read Chinese? There are all kinds of strange things I've come across, but this handout from Metro English really caught me off guard. So what do you think, does God speak English?
