Yes, leave it to the photographer at the recent Beijing Alive Not Dead dinner party to be the last to post up images of the nights foolery. No matter. On Friday, Etchy hosted an intimate dinner party (read small) for 8 of us. I'm sure there would have been more, but the whole thing was rather last minute. Still, the absence of others was our gain as the restaurant featured Guizhou cuisine. For you die hard foodies, there was no ciwawa.
Don't tell Savvy, but I have a secret. For years, I have kept a box of old camera equipment in tow with us. Whenever we reduced clutter, especially before an international move, I managed to squirrel the box away undetected. Today, I decided to take a peak inside as I have almost no recollection as to its contents. This was in the first of several boxes within.
If memory serves, this Ansco V...Read more
Great idea for documenting a trip, even if it is shorter than what Long Beard set out to do - one year on foot across China. Enjoy. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ky6vgQfU24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ky6vgQfU24
Not long ago, a group of film makers got together to have a bit of fun one weekend here in Beijing. Although I could not join them on location for the full extent of their misadventures, I was able to drop in for a few hours and document the work. For the more serious side of things, you can check out Wu Di's blog as he has posted some of the pics. However, I thought the view from behind the scenes was more ente...Read more
On my recent trip to Oregon to visit family, I had intended to photograph some culture Americana a la the 4th of July Independence Day festivities in my hometown. Though Ashland is not very big, it does put on a good parade each year and afterwards there is a festival atmosphere and fireworks in the night. Unfortunately, I had flu symptoms that weekend and was in no condition to go out, so that shoot will wait for another year. Consequently, I returned to Beijing after five weeks of leave thinking I did not have much pho...Read more
Alright, I'm back. What's that? You failed to notice my absence. People, where is the love? I just returned from a much needed 5 week break from life in Beijing. I'll get something up about that soon, but in the mean time, it's time to play...

Went over to Li Gang's studio the other day. Li Gang is a Beijing based sculptor, photographer and so much more who is represented by the Red Gate Gallery. I may be involved on a project he is dreaming up for the fall, but it's too soon to divulge details. Though I don't know him well, he was eager to discuss cameras and show me some of the gear he has cobbled together himself. Here's a few shots of his custom built cameras.
It was a hot morning and AnD's favorite young model, Reina, decided to look for some fun out of the sun. Her search ended at the Linda Gallery in 798. It's big, it's free, it's air conditioned!
She searched the joint for something unique.Read more
Last week, I documented three events in conjunction with the Coming Home art exhibition at the Linda Gallery in 798. My friend, Catherine Croll, curated the exhibition which featured the work of 37 prominent Chinese-Australian artists, many of whom have moved back to China. There was a BBQ dinner party on Wednesday for the artists to meet each other (some of them are classmates that had not seen one another for over ten years). On Friday the Australia...Read more
Few nights ago, Stephen and Terence came in from Alive not Dead'sHong Kong lair to host an event for artists in Beijing at Jazz-Ya. Basically, it was a chance for them to introduce AnD to some new artists, share some changes here in China with Tom.com and let some artists highlight their work. There were a couple of musical performances, including Read more
