'Shanghai' comes to Beijing

At the China premiere of the Cusack/Chow/Li/Watanabe period epic.

One of the most memorable experiences of my as TWC Asian Vice-President was the production of the movie 'Shanghai'. I remember reading the original script, very early in my tenure, and thinking that it was far beyond ...Read more

The Lost Logan Interview Found!

The Beast Speaks!

Below is an interview I did for a web site called OneMetalHeroes. I don't know if it ever appeared, and I can't find the site. It focusses primarily on my DVD commentary work, and ...Read more

Beach Quest : The search concluded...

Beach Spike! locates locations.

A few months ago, I ran a blog about our quest for a suitable location for our upcoming B&E/T-Films production Beach Spike!, an epic tale of volleyball, kung fu, comedy, romance and stunning Asian girls in bikinis...

At that time, we found a loc...Read more

Pete's Drag On

Attending the wedding of the Wongs.

Just as there is no beginning to my talents, there seem to be no end to those of Pete Wong, who worked for me on 'The Blood Bond' as dialogue coach and 2nd AD, and who played the role of brave Lieutenant Wuche. He's also a kick ass Mantis kung fu practitioner, and all around good guy.

When Pete told me he was getting married to the lovely Julia, I was delighted for both of them. (Julia also pops up as an extra in the film!) He invited me to the...Read more

Cannes-demonium

Working the the Croisette from either end.

Cannes Film Festival is always a madhouse, and was even more so for me this year. Beneath the clear blue skies, I felt like I was in a pressure cooker.

Meeting Damon Dash

Blakrok meets the Lion Rock

I'm indebted to my friend Niall Phelan for inviting me to meet hip-hop impresario Damon Dash. Damon was in Asia to recruit new talent, and I met up with him at the home of his Hong Kong based business partner. I had to admit that I know next to nothing about hip-hop or ...Read more

Back in the commentary booth

Recording the talk track for 'Storm Warriors' UK DVD release.

I've been so busy setting up B&E Productions, shooting 'Blood Bond', prepping 'Beach Spike!', selling 'Little Gobie', I realised I hadn't recorded a DVD commentary for almost six months. I'...Read more

Fixing it in post

ADR on Blood Bond

You never realise how important sound is to a film until you have to try to get decent dialogue recording on a noisy location. ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording) allows you to go into the studio later and re-record unclear lines, and add extra audio as needed.

For 'Blood Bond', we booked a session at Hong Kong's famed recording studio, MBS (Media Business Services) in Kwun Tong. (Its the same facility at which I record my DVD commentaries, of which I'm sure ...Read more

Guido Lives!

Surviving the Alive Not Dead anniversary

Now I know how that guy in Fellini's '8-and-a-1/2' and Rob Marshall's 'Nine' feels. AnD parties are always great, and I try to attend if I'm in town. The most recent one (which was a while ago, by the time I got around to writing this!) left me ...Read more

Hong Kong Film Awards (belatedly)

Bodyguards and Assassins rule the night!

Catching up on my blogging, some random thoughts about the Hong Kong Film Awards. This year was a big win for Teddy Chen, whose epic 'Bodyguards and Assassins' swept all before it.

I remember working with Teddy on the English version of the script for this film, back when it was called 'Dark October'. This was eight years or so ago. Teddy was all set to shoot at thay time, ironically, just opposite our studio in Nanhai, where ...Read more
