Hype. it's great up to a certain point and then it becomes a bad.
The reason is because very few things ever live up to the hype. As a super super pop culture geek, I'm pretty up to date and have a pretty solid gauge on the hype-ness of most things--movies, music, sports, etc.
Once something is universally loved and praised, it reaches monster-hype status (hypebeast?), and once something has reached monster hype status, 99.9% of the time it disappoints. Think them Matrix sequels, Obama as President, Slumdog Millionaire,...Read more
Check out this great read from Vince Thomas of Slam and NBA.com. Slam is a mag I'd love to write for, because it's a "urban basketball mag" , meaning you can use bball slangs (ie: "dropped 11 dimes", "he had a broken J") and write with a hip hop twang. LOL
Yeah. A few more years of experience and I'm gonna look to move to NYC and write for Slam. Or maybe Slam the print mag...Read more
Joining Twitter is like joining a triad in HK movies. Who you follow matters. A lot.
I follow a bunch of geeks who like to share links. Of course there's Bill Simmons, former LA times writer JA Adande, AZ Central journalist/film review **Bill Goodykoontz (I became a fan after I read his Basterds review. Now THIS is how you write a movie review. Just a perfect combo of plot summary, analysis, KNOWLEDGE--spottin...Read more
Stranger than Fiction makes no sense. Even when you follow the rules set within the movie's universe, there are contradictions within its own defined rules.
Still, I love this movie.
It's good.
Sometimes you can't explain things. It's just good. I like it.
Feature not done. Due in 7 hours. But still, STF is on and I must watch.

This isn't an officially sponsored exhibition; it's just the work of a diehard fan.
As a kid growing up in HK, I fell in love with manga. Dragonball, Saint Seiya, etc...Read more
After spending over 60 hours in Wanchai working on the feature, I knew I needed a break tonight. Luckily, two former coworkers, Ms Lam and Ms Chin asked me to go with them to listen to some blues.
But it wouldn't be any regular bar/lounge we were going to now. Not with Ms Chin, whom I previously called the hippest/coolest chick I know, leading the way. She took us to this top secret barbersh...Read more
The legendary unreleased Rolling Stones documentary Cocksucker Blueshave leaked online, some 37 years after it was filmed!
Meanwhile, Rolling Stones magazine knocks it out of the park with a super insightful and intriguing look at why the Beatles broke up. They're not putting it online so you must read it in print. Go get it, it's an amazing read. Guess music journalism is still alive!
It is 10:44 pm. I’m sitting at office blogging and chatting on AIM (the US version of MSN). I’m talking to Brian, my possible-best friend’s younger brother.
In fifteen seconds time, he will tell me what’s been happening in his life.
Twelve seconds now.
Two minutes ago, I was sitting at office attempting to finish the 4000 word hip hop feature. It is due in 88 hours. One minute ago, I decided my mind is too cluttered with thoughts and too distracted to work.
Seven seconds now.
I call Brian my “possible-best f...Read more
Love him or hate him--and he does seem to have that polarizing effect on folks--you can't deny Quentin Taratino's passion for films.
Inglorious Basterds may not be for everyone; I have a feeling alot of locals won't get it cause it's too wordy and lacking that big "action" scene. I think some people may be put off by the fact that Taratin looks at the Jews and Nazis from a new angle: although they're not exactly "good", the Nazis are generally portrayed as honorable and stand by their w...Read more
YESSSS I'm doing a group interview with Kevin Durant on Sept 3rd right.
Usually group interviews sucks cause everyone's trying to fight for questions. But with Velvet Hoop, I'm sure most local media don't even know who the hell he is. So it'll be me asking all the questions again, like that one time with Allan Houston. No one in there even knew anything...Read more
