It tingles with excitement to practise my opening:
"Hi FaGor, I have been wanting to meet you since i...was a kid???"
"No~ No~ No~ Ahemm""Hi FaGor, its such a pleasure to meet you ! My parents and I are such big fans of yours....."
No film you've ever seen is sufficient to prepare you for the powerful magnetism of being in the same room with this icon of the silver screen. It is no wonder that women of all ages weaken at their knees and men twitch the corners of their mouths in wistful envy and admiration.
From a distance, the illumination was immediately forthcoming in the shape of Mr. Chow Yun-Fat (a.k.a Fagor) himself. Fagor was in his costume ready for scene of the day so I took a seat beside the monitor (where the producers were) and enjoyed the "live" performance of Mr. Chow Yun-Fat. During a break Fagor walked towards my direction and we held eye-contact. Oh lord ~! My face and ears felt hot suddenly and adrenaline rushed up from my spine, making me feel faint. Please don't misunderstand, personally this sensation is very different from meeting my Prince Charming. I have admiration and total respect for Fagor.
When Fagor stood right before me, I instantly smiled and greeted him in Cantonese:
"Hi Fagor, Nie Hou" ("Hi Mr. Chow, how are you?"), I kept smiling.
Fa Gor grinned with surprise:
"You speak Cantonese ! I thought you're from Singapore."
I was awed by this information he knew about me and I'm still smiling:
"I've been staying in HK for seven years and learnt the language during my stay and I'm still learning till today".
I still couldn't stop smiling and couldn't contain my bursting emotion and I took a deep breath and retorted:
"Fagor ! It is really a pleasure to meet you !"
Right after I spilled my words, Fagor put his arms around me and held me close, just like my dad. This broke the ice and we chatted whenever he had a break. We chatted about the film "Shanghai". We chatted about his stay in London. We also chatted about his passion for photography. I felt tranquillized for those given special moments.
'Shanghai' marks the first time that I've actually met Fagor in person. Although I didn't have the chance to act in the same scene with him, watching him on the set, gave me calming presence. As legendary as Fagor is, he loves everyone around him without judgement and with equal respect, humor and good grace.
Fagor has the ability to inhabit a character completely and he makes it look so easy every time. It is my honour to get to know him through our conversations, I've got a first hand experience into understanding why Fagor is who he is today. He is truly as charismatic, righteous and humble as his reputation suggests, such attributes have left me with a deep and long-lasting impression of him.
