i have to thank helene (a.k.a. levity) for putting this video in her blog. i am forever blessed and touched by it. it is my hope that one day everyone can be free from their secrets. we all go through the same things in life, just in different forms. you are not alone.
i am also reminded of an oprah special i stumbled upon where lisa ling went to talk to a group of teenagers at school to address some serious issues in an exercise which i believe was called "cross the line" (please correct me if i'm wrong. it's been a really long time since i caught that show). the process consisted of lisa reading self esteem/racism/prejudice/bullying type of questions to these young adults. she asked questions such as "have you ever felt like someone was racist towards you" and "have you ever felt insecure...". if the students' answer was yes, they were asked to cross a line from one side of the room to the other.
the students were shocked as they all crossed over one by one, question after question.
tears were shed, hugs were passed.
it was incredible to see that no matter what kind of "image" they had or who the students were in their daily lives were exposed as irrelevant. everyone had the same insecurities and issues.
didn't matter if you were the head of the class or the quiet one in the corner, everyone.
if you are holding something inside, please know that you are not alone.
we are all human. we all have human emotions. please take care of yourselves.
books were published earlier this year with prints of the actual post cards in them. i haven't had a chance to see them, but i am definitely picking up a few. all the information is on the website.
btw, helene is an amazing photographer...you should check out her page when you get a chance.
