Last year I had the privilege of acting in "Finishing The Game". Set in the 70s, it's a mockumentary about the search for someone to replace Bruce Lee in order to complete the filming of his last film "The Game of Death". It's the one where Bruce wears the famous yellow jumpsuit and gets a giant Kareem Abdul-Jabbar footprint on his chest.
It was a family reunion. It gave me the opportunity to work with some old friends like director Justin Lin who I had previously worked with on "Better Luck Tomorrow" and "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift". He was also the co-writer with Josh Diamond. Josh was the 1st Assistant Director on BLT and was the acting coach on FF3. Sung Kang, Roger Fan, Parry Shen my co-horts from BLT acted in it. As did Leonardo Nam and Brian Tee from FF3. We managed to bring back a bunch of BLTers such as Curtis Choy (Sound Department) BJ McDonnell (steadicam) Jaime Kelly (make-up) Julie Asato and Joan Huang (producers) and Evan Leong (2nd unit director).
I played Toby Jackson, one of the wannabe-Bruce Lees. And as a parallel to my own life, Toby has US immigration problems. We meet him in Mexico as he struggles to get over the border to get to the audition.
Funnily enough it was back when we were shooting BLT that I showed this video to the crew one night:
