Being super busy preparing the artworks for the upcoming exhibitions, we’ve spent the last couple of days shooting like crazy. And they were definitely crazy, our beloved visitors and contributors Nick, Nino & Wang Yang amazed the entire island with their tricks, twists and hippety hops.
We at Liu Dao have been known for incorporating all sort of animals in our digital artworks. The last pet through our doors was ‘pudding’ the pug, and there’s currently a sizeable tank of LED goldfish in the middle of the island6 gallery. Today we played host to a pair of feathered friends.

With the ambition of giving the island6/Liu Dao blog a bit of cerebral clout, this is the first entry of a (hopefully) weekly series on “interesting ideas which have something to do with island6’s artworks”. So this week’s theme is… Zygmunt Bauman’s ‘Liquid Modernity’
At the grand opening of Opera Gallery’s new Hong Kong space at 52 Wyndham Street, Central on 7th March, Liu Dao had two art works on show. A host of press, collectors and art-savants were present to welcome in the impressive new gallery which exhibites over four storeys. The ground floor is currently exhibiting paintings by the Spanish painter Lita Cabellut whilst the remaining three floors are showing various contemporary artists, mainly from China.
It has been a wonderful and busy year here so far at Island6- new exhibitions being held, artwork being made and new friendships being forged to name a few. And what a lovely way to bring in the New Year than by taking a trip to warm and beautiful Auckland, NZ? Two worlds are about to collide and we think this could be a very tasty collaboration indeed.

Well we’re no stranger to shoots at island6, and our latest model was more of the furry on four legs type of beauty. She was called 小布丁 or Little Pudding, true enough to her name she was a very sweet dog indeed with star quality. Twas but a chance meeting that brought her our way after searching high and low for a pug to star in Liu Dao’s next piece.

Happy New Year to you all! We hope you celebrated the festive season in fine form.

Although it’s quite warm outside for the middle of December (18 degrees!!!), you can’t help but notice that Christmas is definitely around the corner. Whether it be the decoration (sometimes very tacky) you see everywhere, or the millionth time you hear jingle bells in the most unusual of places (a hole in the wall bike repair place), chestnuts being sold on the street corners, or a family relative coming to visit, its high time you put on your santa hat (figuratively speaking) and suck on that christmas cane! While the majority of the team is in Bangkok representin’, a few were left behind to take care of a lonely island.
However a few surprises did come afloatin’.
First off, Mark, a lovely friend from Australia who happens to be in Shanghai at the moment, dropped by the gallery on wednesday for a quick visit. So unexpected and so lovely.
Then poor Leela’s stomach was in the grips of bad meat that she ate at her favorite uyghur restaurant. But being the trooper she is, she still came in and stayed late.
