I interviewed Jeff Lau chun-wai this morning. He needs no introducing to "local" film buffs, but I'll do it anyways--he's the dude who directed Stephen Chow in his first "hit" movie, All For The Winners. More importantly, he's also the man behind the two-parter Chinese Odyssee movie (I believe that was Karen Mok's film debut?), which is quite possibly Stephen Chow's most "revered" works among the film buffs. It's not as mainstream popular as Shaoli...Read more
Maybe it’s because I hang around so many Brits. Maybe it’s because I’ve accepted that it’s part of Hong Kong. Or maybe it’s because I’ve somehow turned into a pushover lately, but I put up with a lot of second hand smoking now.
Coming from California, I’ve long gotten used to not having to deal with second hand smoke because it’s against the law to smoke indoors. The city of Glendale has recently taken it to another level—they’ve banned smoking completely. You can’t smoke on public streets, in open areas, outside coffee shops, etc.Read more
I just watched He's Just Not That Into You. I've heard good things about the movie, with most people saying it's a more realistic, modern look at dating, love, relationships, and the general "game" (I hate that word, but it has to be used here).
Everyone's been praising it because they think there's some deep lesson/moral to the film about love and being happy. I've read/heard stuff like "it's about letting yourself be treated well" or "let it be" or whatever.Read more
Ever since I read the production notes of Up a few months back, the movie has struck a chord with me. Not just any chord now, but a Ziggy Stardust power chord.
And now, the "omg you must see this"s are coming from my Cali friends slowly but surely.
I know this will be the best film of the summer, but I'm a bit weary to watch because I know it's gonna make me tear up. (Like Eternal Sunshine, piece of shit man... I saw that thing in 2004 and it was the most beautiful thing ever, but I couldn't get myself to ...Read more
This guy had a reasonable J so I had to play him closer than I'd like. In my younger, USC-24-hour-courts-balling days. I woulda read him like a book and locked him up. But tonight, I got beat like I stole something.
I now have to resort to that annoying poke-ball-from-behind-after-being-beaten-off-the-dribble move. A move that old folks used to do to me as a teen and I...Read more

Well I've searched and I've searched
To find the perfect life-
A brand new car and a brand new suit
I even got me a little wife-
But wherever I have gone
I was sure to find myself there-
You can run all your life
But not go anywhere
"The Interns" had their second jamming session tonight, a fourth member was added on the keyboard. He's not a intern but a school teacher... so there goes our name. Actually, our other 4th member just got promoted from intern to staff writer at HK so yeah, we need a new band name.
After jamming session, T and I went over to the Wanch for live jam night. Bumped into a few familiar faces, including Mr Sweeting from Star TV and Paul from DP. Paul pulled double duty, first he played bass for one band then drums for another. Needless...Read more
I was randomly googling my name earlier (yeah that's pretty narcissistic) and came across this... one of my very first published writing from my very first writing job at BC Magazine.
BC Magazine's owner/publisher/editor does not have a good reputation around the HK circles. More than a few know him to be rude, condescending, and just an all around not-too-nice a guy.<...Read more
