Team News - The PCCA midpack is real tight! The completion of rounds 5 & 6 in the Porsche Carrera Cup championship marks the halfway point, in a very exciting season! After the 10 car strong midpack being with seconds of one another at the chequered flag, the order continues to change from race to race. With 8th place overall currently held by Singaporean, Ringo Chong who is on 39 points, and 15th place being held by Jean Marc Merlin with 33 points, this pack of drivers will be fighting all of the way to the end of the season. In current order in the overall championship from 8th to 15th include Ringo Chong (39), Wayne Shen (37), Jeffrey Lee (36), Yuey Tan (36), Philip Ma (34), Christian Chia (34)and Jean Marc Merlin (33).During the most recent Porsche Carrera Cup round in Zhuhai, China, the same pack qualified within 1.5 seconds of each other, although the total field had qualified some 7 seconds apart from pole, to 23rd position.Team boss, Andy McElrea had this to say about Yuey Tan, in only his 2nd season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. “The aim is for car 5 to now gradually step up to the next level. It’s easy to forget the closer to the front we get, the more difficult progress becomes. 12 months ago, within the PCCA races, we were at the back of the 3rd group. With the Australian testing and racing we leapfrogged straight to the middle of the second group. This bunch is typically the most competitive as it generally has up to 15 cars. So to be at the front of this group by season’s end is the aim.”Singaporean driver, Yuey Tan also remained realistic of the fierce competition that has been built in the midpack of the PCCA 2010 season. “I’m under no illusions about how good those guys are out there. Weng (Mok Weng Sun) is doing a phenomenal job this year and for everyone saying that he shouldn’t be in class B, he’s a gentlemen driver and we should all just get faster!” Yuey said. “As for the guys I am competing against, it’s a scary notion. The guys all the way down to 15th place in the championship are well capable of going quicker than us on a good day. It’s really close and I am happy that we are in 10th overall and 5th in the class B championship.”The next race is yet to be announced after the cancellation of the Korean round in August.
