Last week, Singaporean race driver Yuey Tan made an appearance at the Michelin Pilot Experience 2011 as an instructor, alongside current leader of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, Rodolfo Avila and Malaysia's ex-A1 driver, Aaron Lim. The experience was held at the Sepang International Circuit in KL, Malaysia.
"It was an absolute pleasure to be working in such a professional environment like Michelin. Rodolfo has been a close friend of mine for several years and meeting Aaron was also absolutely fantastic. Both have been fantastic to work with!" commented Tan.
Tan was one of three instructors in the first week of the MPE (Michelin Pilot Experience), working with some fantastic cars including the Formula Renault, Porsche Carrera Cup car, Renault Clio Cup, Citroen C2 Rally and Sodi karts. Vehicles used for safety cars during the week include the Lotus Exige S GT4 and the Subaru WRX STi.
"What I found amazing about the Michelin Pilot Experience is the vast array of cars that people were able to experience on the day. It is done in a safe environment and the program is in its 6th year, proving that this is a formula that works," Tan continued. "I would recommend anyone that has the racing bug to give a course like this a bit of a shot. I have no doubt that it would be awesome for all, and change the lives of some forever!"
The program saw between 15-30 people per day attending the driving experience, allowing guests of Michelin to learn motorsport basics, operation of Formula, GT and Rally race cars, and have taxi rides in the Cup car and 2-seater Formula Renault. During the experience, the circuit was also split between the north and south track, allowing various activities to be done simultaneously. The dirt rally compound at Sepang was also being used.
"It's also great for me to be instructing day in day out, helping me cement my current knowledge, and passing it on to others which is really the way sport should be in my opinion. Sepang is also a great venue for us as I have the MME and a PCCA round on that circuit in the next 4 weeks."
"I'd also like to thank Regis, Hong and the gang at Michelin and EKS for doing a great job!" Tan concluded.
Yuey Tan heads back to Sepang at the end of the month for rounds 7 & 8 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia series.
