Tan finishes season on high

Singapore's youngest Porsche Carrera Cup driver, Yuey Tan finishes the season on a high as he takes a category podium in Shanghai.

The last two rounds of the season saw Tan start off strongly, finishing the Friday practice sessions 7th quickest overall and 1st in category. This gave a good foundation for Tan to build on for the qualifying that was on the next day.

This however did not work well for the Singaporean as qualifying saw some hard conditions that gave all the drivers a track that was half wet and half dry.

"Unfortunately during qualifying, I could not get the car to work for me. It was very difficult to drive and we did not know why at first," said Tan.

Just before the race on Sunday morning, McElrea Racing engineer Hayden Morris and his crew managed to diagnose the problem, the cars handling compromised due to a leaking shock absorber in the front of the car.

"We were lucky to find the problem as we qualified a season worse in 18th overall and 7th in category so there was plenty of work to do going into the races. It isn't easy if the shocks are dipping, doesn't help us go around the corners!"

Fortunately for Tan, he managed to keep two clean races on the weekend, with the hype of the battles happening for the last 7 laps at the Shanghai GP race 2.

"It was crazy! Wayne Shen (eventually category champion) and I had one hell of a battle for many laps at the GP. Although it slowed us down as a pack which wasn't ideal, we still managed to go fast and have a great race. There were moments where we made contact but not enough to take us out of the race. It was a great race and loads of fun. Im glad for Wayne that he won the championship and all the best for more battles in 2013!"
