Driver - Yuey Tan – The future of Singapore GP uncertain

Singapore have stated that the future of the Singtel Singapore Formula 1 Weekend is still uncertain.

Formula 1 supremo, Bernie Eccelstone had indicated during the Singapore GP Weekend that he'd like to see the Formula 1 Weekend in Singapore, for the next twenty years. Describing it as the sports' "crown jewel," F1's leading man said that "For years and years, I've been saying that the world has been moving this way (to Asia). Moving east, not west," he said.

The Wimobilize McElrea Team and Singaporean driver, Yuey Tan have competed in two of the three GP weekends that Singapore have hosted for Formula 1. In each case, the Porsche Carrera Cup was the support race, leading up to the Formula 1 sessions at the beautiful Marina Bay circuit.

"I hope that the Singapore Race is here to stay, " Tan said. "It means a great deal that the Singapore race stays for many of us in motorsport. I know it isn't a cheap affair but there is a business model behind it. Perhaps it is the approach that makes it hard for Singapore to quantify. I reckon, build the local fan base, and this will give us a local and regional foundation to sustain the sport."

"We must remember that Formula 1, Porsche Carrera Cup and many other major race series' are more than just tools of tourism. There are fans all over the world that still follow it as their greatest love. I am no exception. I am a driver know, but far after I finish my driving career, I will still be a fan," concluded Tan.

Senior Minister, S.Iswaran had this to say. "We've gone through three quite different years in our experience with F1," the local Straits Times quoted senior minister for trade and industry S.Iswaran, "They give us a good set of data points from which to assess the F1 from. We want to make sure the economic benefits are justifiable going forward. I would say the decison to proceed will rest on a robust cost-benefit analysis, and clearly the terms on any deal we get going forward."It seems that there is much to be considered for the Singapore Government and Singaporean Motorsport, over the next 12 months in Singapore.
