On September 18th 2008 Ben Folds Five had a reunion gig and played their last album "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner" from beginning to end. At first it didn't sell like their first couple of releases and was considered a bomb by their label. But in time the album built a following (kind of like Weezer's Pinkerton) and ended up being a classic. Since I'm a huge fan of their stuff I was super happy to see that Myspace filmed it all. Check it out!
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8qjC-5bFhABen Folds Five rocks! This clip shows the whole show plus interviews with the band, Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie), and Ben Lee. Some of my favorite parts are:
27:00 "Army"
Well I thought about the army dad said son "you're fu*king high".......
01:06 "Narcolepsy"
I should warn you I go to sleep.....
19:00 "Magic"
Saw you last night danced by the light of the moon
Stars in your eyes free from the light that you knew......
If you're not familiar with BFF you should give them a listen. They had a few hits including "Brick" from the Whatever and Ever Amen album and "Army" from Reinhold Messner.
Their unique piano based rock gained them a huge following in the indie/college scene and it was a bummer when the broke up. I remember trying to get my roomate to watch them with me at 4th & B (San Diego) before they broke up but I'm glad I went on my own anyway.....haha!
