Flug what?? Flugtag (pronounced floog-tag; noun) Flugtag means“flying day” in German. Itis a competition that dares both the brave and the brainy to design, build and pilot homemade flying machines off a 6 metre high ramp in hopes of achieving human-powered flight. But don’t be fooled – this is no ordinary flying competition! Distance is important, of course, but teams were also judged on both creativity and showmanship (the entertainment value of the pre-flight performance). Originality were key to sway the votes of the celebrity judging panel which Jun Kung,
Michael Wong, Ken Wong, Lisa S, Steven Wong, John Li (President of the Hong Kong Aviation Clubetc; whilst under the watchful eye of Sammy Leung and Siu Yee (森美小儀)kept the crowd going.
Steven Wong, the East Asian Games 2009’s first gold medalist said “Red Bull Flugtag is a great event. I am impressed by the team called ‘CGV’, the designs of their flying craft and costume and their performance are very creative, I can tell they have put a lot of effort in producing their flying machine.”
Lisa S, a renowned local model said “I enjoyed the event very much and this kind of event will definitely enhance the creativity of people of Hong Kong.”
