Yesterday, I had the opportunity to do some red carpet interviews for the new Miley Cyrus movie “The Last Song”. No, I’m not going through some kind of career change, but my friend Donna, who usually does these for her Bay Area TV show “Lifestyle Today” (these segments also screen under a different name for a different national station based out of Orange County: SBTN’s “Victoria To Uyen Show”) couldn’t make it down, so she asked me to fill in for the day. So I did.
Part of me wanted to make this an anthropological excursion… but I’ll admit I wanted to see what it feels like to be in front of the camera for a change, and maybe get a taste of Hollywood glam that I had sworn off a few years ago.
Perhaps I picked the wrong Disney movie though. However, I did I learned a few things. Did you guys know that at red carpet events, where the stars aren’t A-list stars…
They have publicists that you can wave down like waiters in a restaurant to request an interview with whoever?
They have publicists, who hold up little paper signs with their client’s name and the single most important credit up to date, in the likely case that you’ve never heard of these people?
ALL answer “The Notebook” to the question “What’s your most favorite romantic film?”
Most press photographers, camera people, and reporters know each other and feel some kind of solidarity?
There’s a lot of waiting around going on?
Teenagers will get there 6 hours early to catch a glimpse of Disney stars???
I firmly believe that, though everyone is having fun, the people on and off the red carpet are only having an ok time. The real pay off is when this stuff gets published. Everyone has a mission.
“Live from the Hollywood red carpet premiere bla bla bla….”
Tim, the cameraman: “Wait wait… I didn’t press the button!”
Take 2 “Hi guys, I’m so excited to see what tonight’s event has in store for us… bla bla bla”
Screaming fans…
“Yo, you guys are too loud!”
“So, who do you play in the movie?” And also… what’s your name again???
“Do you like being a Disney princess now?”
“Well, that’s a fabulous suit you’re wearing. What is it?” “I think it’s Men’s Warehouse.”
Oh, and this is the new hunk on the street. Liam something. Liam Hemsworth. Yes, Liam Hemsworth.
“Omygod, it’s Miley! Look over here!!!” Hmmmm…, I like your pink blackberry case, neighbor!
“Yeah, I’m not sure why I’m here either. I just woke up….”
Ok, so Mr. Cameraman Tim was my favorite guy of the evening. He’s supercool. And funny!
Anyway. I hope you enjoyed my detour into teeniebopper world. I think I’ll go back to blogging my own pictures though. I’ve got some cool fashion pics up my sleeves. I’m talking about gold outfits, smoke, feather hats….
Does any of that intrigue you at all? I mean… at all? Because it’s coming!!!!!
Happy viewing! I look forward to meeting you all!
