Scary thought actually. But I still love them.
My newest obsessions are Asian Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD’s). Produced mostly in Korea, China or Japan, they are cast out of resin and are awesome to pose. These babies can stand on their own!
The fun thing about BJD’s is the fact that no doll is like the other. Face and body molds can only be used about 20 times to cast the doll parts before they have to be redone. One batch of production will never be the same as another. You’re able to make hybrid dolls with faces and body parts from different companies. Once at home, you are also able to customize them with wigs, face ups (make up and facial features painting), and outfits.
[if !supportEmptyParas][endif] As a new BJD owner, I have come to rediscover my inner child through dolls. I’ve been working on my feature for months now, but since I’ve graduated I have been itching to tell stories. My photography has been a good outlet for that, but the beauty of being a writer/director is that I get to create my own content and put my vision and my perspective of things on the screen. Well, in the next coming months I will experiment with doing exactly that, but with dolls!
[if !supportEmptyParas][endif] Since Coco’s arrival a month ago, and Charm’s arrival around my birthday four weeks later, I have tirelessly been learning how to sew and design clothing and making miniature furniture. I’m not joking! I couldn’t even hold a needle before that! But here I am, creating little sets and props for my dolls. My longterm project is to do a little stop motion short film this year (aside from my feature hopefully). Seeing that I will need an entire cast of characters, and that a doll can be fairly expensive, this will take a while. In the meantime I will however indulge in taking pictures of my lovelies and perhaps hold myself over with little photo stories until my doll family grows.
I hereby introduce you to Coco and Charm, both Asleep Eidolon dolls (Blueberry and Cherry molds respectively). [endif]
Here is Coco’s first day home. She came in this box:

And inside was the cooler box. Not sure what they mean by “I come to myself only for you”. It’s purdy though….
Coco, the mummy.
Scary Coco with no eyes.
Ah yes. Naked bald Coco. Lookin’ gooood.
She looks good, even though she’s got no hair yet!
Coco was trying out pink hair and a new outfit I had made her when Charm arrived in her box. Here she is greeting her new comrade.
Coco whispering sweet nothings to Charm’s box until I unpack her.
“Hi Charm! It’s okay. Mommy’s obsessed with taking pictures, but she’ll set you free in just a second.” Uh…
Charm is still blind.
Ah, another beauty. She’s got chubbier cheeks than Coco. So cute….
And now, drumroll please… Here is Coco’s and Charms first professional photo shoot together. No sets for you guys yet, but do enjoy the outfits. I made’em myself! Including them shoes!
Thanks for visiting. You will be seeing much more of them!
Happy viewing! I look forward to meeting you all!
