（中文翻譯在下面）Friday was the first airing of the competition.  My only job was to act as the audience while 14 of the contestants had to perform.  The 14 had to leave in the morning around 8:30am while the rest of us went into Shanghai right after lunch arriving at 3pm.  The show wasn’t going to be on air till 9pm so we had to kill 6hrs!  It was the longest 6 hrs I’ve ever experienced!  All I can do is listen to my ipod, write in my poetry book, and try to make friends. So, the first 3 hrs or so…I was a complete loner.  I have never felt so alone in my life.  I almost wanted to cry!  I don’t know how to go about talking to the other contestants because they are so young. I don’t know what I would talk about.  Not only are they young, but they also have a different culture from mine. I seem to be able to connect with the teachers (who look after us) because they are older and they actually talk to me.  

  Ok, so I was happier when one of the girls started to ask me how to pronounce and translate “Beautiful” the Christina Aguilera song.  I gave her my number to call and told her to just call me up when we had time and I’d go through the song with her.  It made me happy that I could actually help out.  I feel so dumb sometimes because my mandarin isn’t as fluent as everyone else….and there are times when I don’t understand things or else I’m slower at responding.  But…if someone comes to me for translations…and I can help!  Well…that is definitely my duty.  

 So, later on…still 3 hrs before the show…another girl starts to ask me about English songs.  She wanted to listen to some songs that I had on my ipod…so I introduced her to a few of my favorites…India Arie, Jamie Cullum, Damien Rice, Renee Olsteed, Jane Monheit, and a few others.  She was really excited and made me write her a list of singers to listen to. It’s sad though, I realized there are a lot of people who want to hear more English songs…but, they don’t have access to listen to them. Anyways….another thing that I was useful for….it was nice to be able to help her too.繁體中文：上周五是參加比賽後的第一次休息。我只需要做觀眾，看14位選手的表演。他們14個人早上8:30就起床走了，我們其餘的人午飯後出發，3點鐘到了上海。但表演直到晚上9點才開始錄制，這中間我們需要打發掉6個小時！我能做的就是聽ipod、寫我的詩，想辦法交朋友。開頭3小時我完全孤立，從沒感覺如此孤單，都想哭了！我不曉得怎麼同其他選手開始交談，他們都太年輕了，不知道說什麼好。他們不但年輕，跟我還是不同文化。我跟老師們（他們照顧我們）可以聊，他們年紀較大，能真正和我交流。

後來，當有個女生過來問我怎麼發音和翻譯Christina Aguilera的歌"Beautiful"時，我開心一些了。我給了她我的號碼，告訴她只要有空就可以打電話給我，我可以跟她一起過這首歌。我很高興能幫上忙。我的普通話不夠好，經常覺得自己沒辦法講話…很多時候我沒辦法聽懂，或者比別人反應慢些。但是…如果其他人過來請我幫忙翻譯…我可以幫忙！哈…這絕對是我的責任。

然後…錄節目的前3個小時…又有一個女生過來問我英文歌的事情。她想聽我ipod裏面的歌…我向她介紹了幾首我的最愛…India Arie、Jamie Cullum、Damien Rice、Renee Olsteed、Jane Monheit還有一些其他的。她很興奮，讓我給她寫了個清單。其實我發現很多人都想聽更多英文歌…但是他們不知道從哪開始。無論如何…這是另一件讓我覺得自己有用的事情…很開心能幫助她。
