Another adventure in The Philippines!
Visiting the Tarsiers. They are one of the world's smallest primates and kinda look like a mix between monkeys and lemurs.
We visited the Tarsier foundation in Corella, Bohol.
Tarsiers are nocturnal animals and live on different kinds of insects. People used to take them home as pets, but they die very soon in captivity. So now they have become protected animals. One of the other reasons is that they're habitat is becoming smaller. You're not supposed to touch them, so when you see people petting them, then that is wrong! There are other places in Bohol where you can pay the keepers so you can hold them, but it's really not the right thing to do! It stresses them out.
At the sanctuary the tarsiers can roam around freely. There's a high fence that surrounds the territory and serves as protection from predators. At night, the tarsiers can be seen climbing over the fence to look for more food and to go into the forest. They return to the sanctuary before daybreak.
The different kinds of tarsiers
The first one we spotted!
The eyes are so big compared to it's body!
This one looks a bit grumpy...
Two of them are sleeping... I was trying to be very quiet...They are very cute indeed and look so soft and cuddly... I see why people would want to take them home...DON'T GIVE IN TO THE URGE!!!
A tariser can turn it's head almost 360 degrees, just like an owl.
Apparently the creation of Yoda and ET were inspired by the Tarsier!
Here's Vincent and me... Everybody always plays with his mic.
In the background you can see the chocolate hills! There are about 1500 of them!
They really look like Hershey's!
