This is a band from Hong Kong called LMF. If you haven't heard them outside of HK it's okay - but you need to know who they are and what they've stood for and why they're still such an important band in Hong Kong today.

The band is a collective of other 90's bands coming together to play a form of aggressive rap-metal. (Some of these bands were already well established at the time and some of them were up and coming.) They released an underground record in the late 90's that took over Hong Kong basically overnight, taking their street style verbal lyrical abuse of living within Hong Kong's projects and what it meant and how it impacted their lives in straight up street level Cantonese slang right to the masses. Prior to this release, major labels didn't give a fuck as can be expected by HK's major record labels who are easily the most clueless and the worst on this planet. What LMF did was release their own shit, just like ALL the rest of HK bands, but released music that directly connected with almost all of HK's disenfranchised youth of the time. Once they were proven to be a force that couldn't be ignored, and when HK's soulless major labels could start smelling profit to be made, the band went on to sign to a major and continued their upward trajectory placing them firmly in the world of major influential forces within HK.

In our eyes - there has been Beyond, Anodize and then LMF (the other two HK bands I would consider hugely influential to me personally would be Screw and Azylum)...no one has come even CLOSE to LMF in impact or influence ever since and maybe never will.

The band has played several "finale" shows but every year are back with a couple scattered shows here and there. Every time they come back their prophetic lyrical content and music always proves timely because of their socio-political stance and view of current events. With a couple changes in lyrics they can always be applied to any period of HK history. Thus, they continue to be the voice of Hong Kong.

This photo is from their recent two sold out shows in Hong Kong and is a photo that I would blow up and put on my wall right next to any Beastie Boys or Rage Against the Machine or Metallica or Sick of it All poster. These guys are Hong Kong to me. They're still the real deal not afraid to comment on the hell that Hong Kong is currently stuck in.

Hopefully this band will always be around playing shows giving thousands of HK people a chance to blow off steam from living stressful lives in one of the most stressful cities on the planet.
