Happy Friday !!!
Here's my official music video for "JUNE CARTER CASH" - just in time for Valentine's Day. Something I'm extremely proud of. Simple, indie, and perfect.
Directed by the amazing and incomparable Stacey K. Black Cameo appearance by Joe First Jack Kingsley and Monk
THE STORY BEHIND THE VIDEO:
This video is an homage to Bob Dylan's music video for "Subterranean Homesick Blues" (featured at the beginning of his landmark documentary "Don't Look Back" by D.A. Pennebaker). But keep reading...
Since we were shooting this in downtown Nashville, we originally planned to shoot this on January 15th, at 6am to avoid any possible rush hour foot and car traffic.
The plan was to meet on Wednesday, January 14th at 2pm at my house to set up a game plan, organize the cards, etc… Well, as I was polishing up all the cue cards with my Sharpies in my tired left hand, that Wednesday morning began to unfold, and the sun came bursting through the clouds...
I called up Stacey and said "Hey - wanna go for it TODAY instead?"
And boom. Just like that. Change of plans...
So this video was shot on Wednesday afternoon - January 14. It took 3 takes. 1st one was complete (and we have that "outtake"). The 2nd was a bust due to a Mercedes (what else, right?) passing through. Then 3rd take - BINGO.
After the video shoot, Stacey, Joe, Jack and I decided to celebrate by heading to Thai Esane for a late lunch. Then later that evening, someone posted on FB that this very day - JANUARY 14 - was the 50th anniversary of the original recording session for that very same song (Subterranean Homesick Blues) !!!!!
Is that good karma or what ?! Serendipity I love you. SKB - you totally rock.
