So after we picked the supporting actors, the next thing was to get the female lead confirmed. The process itself wasn’t really that difficult, but then the dilemma I am facing now is whether I have made the right decision.
Since I picked this actress for my film, I have heard of so many comments questioning my decision, from people who know or don’t know her, and from people who have read the scrīpt and those who haven’t. Even though the comments are not totally negative, they are just so overwhelming and stiff that even a person as stubborn as I once wondered if I have committed a blunder.
But after I tried to clear my mind and think again, I began to realize the fact that director is supposed to be adamant, and that’s the trait that makes you a director… :) Everyone makes a lot of choices throughout his life, there must be some good choices, and some bad ones, but it doesn’t really matter much. Although I am not sure if I’ve made a right choice today, I could say proudly that I didn’t make a choice I would regret.
So I would like to borrow this opportunity to tell my actress:
VP, since I have decided to have you as my film’s actress, I place my trust in you. I don’t really care what people say, assumptions are worthless. The most important thing is whether we CARE, whether we are willing to commit to this project and spend considerable effort on it. I know you have the potential and I do have confidence in both my judgment and your talent. Please show me I am right.
I believe that if we are really serious about this project and want it to look good, we can pull it off. It is probably not going to be easy and perhaps even if we have tried our best, it simply wouldn’t work out, but it really doesn’t matter. Again, as I said, the most important thing is not the choice, but the process itself. If we have spent our utmost effort on it, no matter how the outcome is, we wouldn’t find it worthless, and sure we wouldn’t regret… because we have tried!Would you mind sparing a month to prove that they are wrong and to make them "drop their spectacles"? I believe we can do it... simply because we care.
Don't forget your dream!
