Back to HK, HK magazine + Opium Soul @ Cliq

Back in HK. Getting settled in properly now. Work mode on. This is the view outside my window. Apparently the feng shui is excellent.HK magazine asked me to do a cover for this coming weeks issue. The feature is about HK's protest culture, to tie in with the 5th anniversary of the July 1st protest about Article 23. Below are a few of the several quick sketches I sent over.

I liked number 2. But they chose number 1.

I did a finish, and they preferred the rawness of the sketch to the polished version. It didn't quite fit to what they had in mind for the feature. So I redrew it!

Not quite the kind of work I'd like to put in my portfolio, but I guess one thing about being an illustrator is being able to cater to your clients' needs.

Also, a friend of mine is playing at Cliq on Saturday the 28th this week. He is responsible for the notorious 'Opium Soul' events that are happening around town. Try and make it, fun times shall be had!
