My work studio is pretty much up and running now. I'm very particular about my workspace. Still missing a drawing table and lots of lamps. At night I prefer turning on a bunch of floor and desk lamps, I really dislike office lighting. Or any kind of ceiling lighting actually. it sets my mood for working, and it seems to make the music sound better.

Sofa bed + mattress = a place to nap for working into the night. I also like books. Or the smell of them, anyways. If you notice on the ledge above the sofa, a skateboard I painted a while ago.I would love to get back to doing some painting at some point. Sometime's drawing on something other than paper or canvas is satisfying as hell. 'Tactility' is the word of the day.The nighttime security guard in this building speaks a bit funny, and my spoken Cantonese really sucks, but he noticed that I had not yet changed the business plaque downstairs to my name. So I came downstairs one night and realized he drew on my plaque for me. I thought that was pretty funny. I think I'll leave it up for a while.Anyways, I'm located smack in the middle of the very busy Dundas Street between Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok. Ladies market is next door, and the area that sells all those deadly BB guns. I'm right upstairs on the 8th floor from the Stinky Tofu. You are welcome to drop by and say hello, so long as you bring some peace offerings (except stinky tofu). I'll accept food, drink, watches, dvds, shoes, and cute girls.

Sometimes I don't draw nipples because I feel like I'll get in trouble. This is my drawing table back when I was in New York. I miss it like an ex-girlfriend. I can't seem to find one anywhere in HK that sells drawing/drafting tables, does anyone know where I can get one??

A small job I did a little while ago. A business owner named Daisy wanted a name card for this little fashion boutique she owns on King's Road in North Point. Her main issue was that her previous name card didn't reflect the business she was in, and her key point was to be 'elegant'. If you are ever one of those people who get home after an event and realize you have 50 name cards in your pocket, it's always nice to have something that stands out a little more than the rest. That's partly why we went with double-size fold on this. Daisy also had the card printed on beautifully textured cardstock in two different tones.
In other news I have had my last wisdom tooth removed so am therefore in a temporary relationship with painkillers. I am also in the process of setting up a studio office space I have started renting to register my business under. And I've recently been asked to contribute to 2 different publications, one based in China and the other from NYC (and HK I think). Neither of these publications will probably see light until early next year, but I will update when they're out.

I usually can't sleep at night, lying in bed for hours while my mind keeps going and doesn't stop. Does anyone else have this problem? The only way I can really fall asleep is to stay awake until I'm totally exhausted, be jetlagged, or intoxicated in one form or another. When I do Illustration gigs on a tight deadline, I don't really sleep at all. Working at night is the best because there's no one to bother you, and you're not obligated to do anything else. Anyone who knows me knows I'm skinny, and as energy never disappears but only changes form, I think it's due to this mind wandering that occurs. My hands sweat when I think.1. Swan Girls
This little porcelain statues' head broke off. We glued it back up. It was a wedding gift for my parents 32 years ago. It's weird looking at it and holding it, thinking about what's its been through, its life as a porcelain statue and the sentimental history behind it. Another interesting thought. You ever looked at a photography art book and been amazed by all the pictures? I saw this one photograph of a traffic cone. You know those cones they use to divert traffic into another lane? It was an awesome photograph, but it made me think: At what point did this traffic cone become a piece of art? The photograph was cool because it was shot well compositionally, the lighting was atmospheric, all the nicks and dents and stains of the traffic cone gave it this awesome personifying quality that I'd never thought a road cone could have. But really, if you think about it, it's just a road cone. It gets handled by all those guys who work and fix and maintain roads and highways. It gets taken from place to place on trucks, placed amidst carbon release zooming past, and stored in a warehouse when it isn't used. Yet for some reason, when some guy takes a picture of it, it gets hung up in a gallery, printed in a book and sold for a premium that I bet those road workers don't make in a year. Am I talking alot of BS?I can't explain my thought process of how I got from this porcelain statue to a photograph of a road cone. But it happened.
2. Cartoon PORN.
That's right. I drew this in my brothers moleskin. I couldn't tell if he was pissed off or if he thought it was funny. Did you know that the majority of Japanese anime porn is drawn by women? Seriously. Wait, maybe not. Not sure how I know this, I'd look it up but I don't want any hentai porn bugs on my computer.3. Taiwan is Awesome
Taiwan is still on my mind for some reason. This is a sculpture by Ju Ming at his Museum. I heart Art.
4. A Glimpse into the Future
This is a small sneak peak of another piece I'm working on. To be unveiled at an exhibit. Possibly maybe. There's something attractive to me about the unlikely romance of a fantasy world. I think it might be an Asian thing, which is probably why anime and video games recieve so well in Asia. I'm a big comic book geek. The comic culture in the US is percieved as low culture, but not so much (if at all) in Asia and Europe. I like to read books too, but I need something visual to tickle my interests. I enjoyed Physics in school because the theories discussed were mind blowing, but I think the reason I sucked at it was because what I pictured in my head was abstract and couldn't be translated into something I understood.Alot of people in HK still ask me what it is I do exactly. "Okay, so you draw.... but I still don't get it".I don't really either. But maybe I'll be in a better state to explain it another day. This entry isn't going to make any sense to me the next time I read it.
My mind really does wander alot.
