Go ahead and speculate. “Why’s Jin doing comedy all of a sudden?” “Are his record sales that bad?” “Is he losing his mind?” “Maybe this is a child hood dream of his?” Truth be told, it’s probably a bit of all of the above. Although I don’t have a definite answer to your “Why?” question, I can say this much. These past few weeks of showing up to open mics at 3 in the afternoon on a tuesday, paying 5 bucks for 5 minutes of stage time, only to go on for an audience of 2 people, since all the previous comedians have left by the time your name is called up, has been quite an eye opening, learning experience to say the least. It’s been quite fascinating as well, exploring the distinction between being funny and trying to be funny. The stage isn’t new territory for me by any means, but it was quite a plunge to dive into this new realm. I love the “grind” of the whole process. Starting from zero. I love the notion of walking on stage at a comedy club and the general sentiment is “Who’s this fool?” Although, that’d probably be the same scenario at a rap event. ? Ultimately, I just sincerely enjoy interacting with people, creating a genuine connection, whether its with an audience of 5 or 5,000. If there’s some laughs in the midst of all my ramblings and observations, that’s a BONUS! Not sure where this journey will lead me, but this past Saturday was a milestone moment indeed. Performing at The Stand was the equivalent of Frodo leaving The Shire. Or when Liam Neeson calls the kidnappers and tell them, "I will find you". There's no telling what will happen next, but it's gonna be interesting. I am aware more than anybody there is lots of ground to cover, lots to learn, much experience to obtain.. but if you are willing to join me on this adventure, click the link in the bio.
