The China Charity Award |

A blog is a rather interesting instrument. You can use it to fully express your thoughts and share them to the world. During interviews, you might say 100 different things, but only 20 of them are actually captured. The full content of the interview is not shared.

Today, I want to take this opportunity to clearly explain some of my thoughts on the China Charity Award.

First, I want to thank the Red Cross Society of China for nominating me for this year’s award. To be honest, I did not do a lot. Along with my wife and the cast & crew of "Fearless", we donated 1 million RMB to the Red Cross’ "Sunshine in the Heart" project. Regarding the award itself, you will notice that a lot of more developed countries do not have such an award. But charity in mainland China has only recently started developing, so an award this like serves a necessary purpose in motivating a few select individuals and companies to take the lead. I hope in the near future that more and more people will participate in charity and philanthropy.

Second, there are a lot of individuals and groups that dedicate their time, energy, and money towards charity work. I hope to learn from these people as role models, so that I can perform even better charity work and help even more people. The idea behind the One Foundation is that everyone donates at least 1 RMB per month, bringing us together as one family. Even though this is just an idea that I have, a lot of people have already expressed their support and participated. If I accept the China Charity Award now, I think there would be a misconception that I am just grabbing the spotlight for myself. In reality a large number of people have contributed to the initial startup and success of the foundation. So I hope that the panel of judges, the government entity in charge of the awards, and the Red Cross will understand my point of view. It’s not that I don’t respect the award. This is not my reason for not wanting to accept it. Personally, I want to take things very steady. I’ve put a lot of thought into how the One Foundation is structured so as to be very fair, transparent and accountable.

So these are just my feelings. Together, I hope we can build up philanthropy in mainland China and make a very bright future. There are so many avenues and methods for doing charity work. But much like China's ecconomy, only if we work together can all of our philanthropic endeavors develop true strength.
