We have finally finished the Beijing portion of "Ci Ma" and have successfully weathered the harsh winter. I expected Shanghai to be much better but who could have guessed that it’s raining and cold here. We’re shooting a scene outdoors for the next eight days so, for the sake of continuity, I will be fighting the rain for that amount of time. These conditions are even worse than those in Beijing. The next eight days will definitely be the most challenging of the entire movie.
I remember during filming of "Once Upon a Time in China", there was one scene that lasted two months in probably the worst conditions I have ever filmed. The rain completely soaked my costume and made it difficult to see clearly. That scene took twice as long to film.
While we were in Beijing a few days ago I was laughing at Andy Lau because he had to film a scene on his own for three days in the rain. It was a difficult time for him, but now he is very happy. He says he only has to fight the rain for three days while I have to do it for eight days. So I guess he's had his revenge.
Well, that’s movie making for you. There is nothing that is usual or unusual. Things change all the time. No matter how the situation evolves, you still have to adapt and move forward. But that’s my job, one that I like very much.
