I spent the last two days in Hong Kong in meetings for the One foundation. I was even busy at night! I hope that the trip resulted in more friends joining the cause. The weather in Hong Kong was rather warm and humid. Coming back to Beijing I was welcome by the cold winter weather that I’ve become accustomed to on this production.
In the scenes we are shooting today, there is one shot where I have to be in a coffin. Because of this, it is customary for the production to give the actor a red envelope as a sign of luck. I got two red envelopes actually: One in the amount of 100 RMB for playing a dead person, and another smaller amount of 5 RMB for lying in the coffin. In total: 105 RMB. It’s not a big amount but I decided to donate the money to the One Foundation.
I have always felt that it’s not a matter of more or less. Any amount represents the good will of the donor. There may be hundreds of thousands of foundations in the world, each with their own focus points. In starting the One Foundation I just wish to ask for everyone's participation, regardless of the amount -- each small gesture collected together creating something big. It’s because I believe that we have to stand up for ourselves -- we have to help each other. In this way we can overcome any challenge in the world. As a people, helping ourselves may even be more powerful than asking for help from above.
