So, in surreal news- I wrote some of the lyrics to the song that plays during the end credits of the movie “Body of Lies” entitled “Bird’s Eye”. I think I played some bass on it too…
The track features the vocals of one of my all time favorite vocalists, Mike Patton of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame. This is like a teenage rock fantasy come true for me… (hopefully not a nightmare for him)
I listened to that Mr. Bungle album almost daily during the 90’s, it was one of the most cryptic, delirious, and hilarious albums I had ever been exposed to- kind of like the sonic equivalent of a David Lynch circus movie. It was a much needed antidote to all the bad hair metal I was ingesting at the time. Also of significance is that it was a gateway drug to avant garde composer/musician John Zorn (who produced the Bungle album) and lead me to discover my now favorite guitarist/musician Bill Frisell, who played in Zorn’s bands back in the day.
Also featured is Serj Tankian of System of A Down. I must admit I don’t know much about System, and I’ve definitely never heard him sing like this. I think he sounds great on this track.
Bird’s eye is not on the soundtrack album, but they released it as a single on iTunes- so check it out there.
Of course, I am not credited on this song- putting my name on it is not going to help sell it. However, I was stoked to find someone who saw the movie, like the song enough to email the movie’s publicist and give me a shout out.
I had a dream in black and white...
