Day 4 – Saturday May 19
Today was much more relaxed. I slept in until 7:10am for a change and spent the first two hours writing. Rebecca and I ate some of the fine, bagged 2€ madelines from the supermarket and set off to catch all the booths we may have missed.
What we found was that Asian countries are all represented at booths and they’re looking for more action content than any other region other than America. Europe just doesn’t seem to care, and Latin America and Africa are basically the same as Euro...Read more
Day 3 – Friday, May 18. Got to the producer’s workshop late. The speakers were two producers, one of whom, Katriel Schory, manages an Israeli film fund that finances 3-5 films per year at about $500,000 each. The discussion was on what kind of producers we are, creative, financial, or personal (often, you’re only one of them), and how to team up with producers of the other kinds.
The knockout blow of the talk though was when the other speaker Diana Elbaum discussed shelving films when they’re doomed, but rather t...Read more
Here’s a new trailer to Jackie Chan’s final action film, which was produced in preparation for the Cannes Film Festival.
Donnie Yen’s upcoming action film Special Identity has wrapped up. Collin Chou – who has a major role in the film – congratulated and praised Donnie for his endeavor and hard work pushing Collin’s action performance to the max and bringing out the best of him physically. The film has completed shooting in Shenzhen and the crew has now moved location in Hong Kong to complete the rest of the shooting. Beside action Donnie will also have emotional scenes, mainly with veteran actress Pau Hei-Ching who will play his mother.
Donnie stated that lots of changed had to be done due to the late controversy surrounding the film – including the changing of locations – and was pushing himself to the limit to make the film good and not waste any time. Originally, Donnie was to shoot a big fight scene with ...Read more
For those who have seen Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle will certainly remember one particular guy aside from Stephen himself as well as Yuen Wah, Yuen Qiu, and Bruce Leung. I’m talking about Xing Yu, who is a 32nd generation shaolin monk in real-life.
Xing Yu – whose real name is Zhang Shuwu – started his film career in the early 2000s mainly appearing in low-budget films before Stephen Chow noticed his remarkable skills and got him casted as “Coolie” in Kung Fu Hustle and got to sho...Read more

I visited the guys up north to finish shooting some scenes for “The Tech,” Chelsea Steffensen’s new SP short. We hadn’t shot anything since March when we finished the end fight (photos below), so it was time we got back on it. First thing we did was get some dialog shots with Nathan on the phone, and we figured we’d just shoot the other end of the conversation (Gavin’s end) once we met up with Gavin th...Read more
