Yumla DJ Charts on Beatport

Just a quick post regarding Yumla – the four main resident DJs and myself now have our charts added onto Beatport. What is interesting is that we all play a similar sound but there is literally only one or two tracks overlapping amongst the five charts! Techno, tech-house, minimal, progressive, deep-house, electronica, chill-out, tools ... all the good stuff is covered.  You can check them out at the direct links below or just go to Beatport at anytime in the future, type "Yumla" in the Search-All box and every chart from us will be displayed. Wendy WennMarkus HommBasil Tam Kerri MonkDan FI will blog a biography and a quick interview with each of the resident DJs in the near future. And keep an eye out for their productions in the very near future.

Nice. I used to despise checking out DJs charts because I felt like if I bought anything on someone else's charts...I was somehow just following a trend or letting someone else make the musical decisions for me. That was a long time ago though and I frequently find lots and lots of great music that I might not have ever been exposed to (or give a second chance to a track that didn't quite catch my ear the first time around).

Viewing charts (essentially blogs without the bullshit!) are almost a necessity these days ... with 10,000 new tracks being released – just in club music alone every month – it's impossible for one person to asses that much information. But I know what you mean. If someone buys the whole chart then they have mental issues. But by all means pick one or maybe two tracks out. No more. Mental control :) On the reverse though, I refuse to even listen to the genre Top 100 Sales Charts on Beatport; preferring to plough thru the new releases track by track until I find stuff I like. Takes ages.

I am actually discussing site improvement with Beatport next week. They conduct regular surveys with labels owners and I have an interview next Wednesday with my rep. Autoplay is already on my list amongst many other things! But for now, Google - there is an unoffical RSS audio playlist / preview file scraper thing for Beatport ... it's out there. Buggy and limited but works per genre or per label. As for mixes, we have been recording all the sets recently but I never had time to edit them. Will update yumla.com more often though. Am making a new blog post right now concerning all this (next one up). In the meantime, consider buying a monthly subscription to Awdio.com ... only a few Euros per month and well worth it ... the money is actually split back to the creators of the music - it's not some corporate pit. Again, I'm meeting those guys tonight a as matter of fact, thy are upgrading our installation hardware. Busy bloody busy!
