Errr, umm, is their production all that? Sounds like too much ProTools HDing to me, even though it was probably recorded on Studer + Euphonix. Early greenday is easy to get the sound of. Cassette 8 track, or just run the mix through a boss distortion pedal. That's because it sucks really hard. Dookie is played straight, Studer + Neve, standard boring studio sound, dead as a doornail & quite clean. The new greenday is all down to the arrangement, it's ridiculously sparsely arranged (for stadium playing) and then there's this squashed rock grease that goes over it that could be anything, just pure 2007 grade US-style overproduction, CEDAR/SADIE master, and then mass marketing bosh out. They ain't punk no more. When they did Dookie the scene knew they'd sold out, and owning the T shirt past the age of 13 marked you out as LOOOOOOSER. Visit my blog, flip the playlist to the Shellac.
