For all of the actors, models and others out there who want to get your fists and feet of fury flying, come and train in traditional Hung Kuen weekdays at 12 midday, Monday to Friday. Training is at Pier 7, Hong Kong docks, diagonally opposite the IFC.
Sifu Mak Chi-kong teaches empty handed forms, self-defence techniques, weapons, stretching and a whole lot more besides. Classes are HK$100 a session for as long as you care to train!
Hung Kuen (AKA Hung Gar) is the classical Southern Chinese martial arts style made famous by the famous Wong Fei-hung. Wong has been depicted in various films by such luminaries as Kwan Tak-hing, Jet Li, Jackie Chan and others. Mak Sifu is in the direct lineage down from Wong Fei-hung through his most famous student, Lam Sai-wing. Lam brought Hung Kuen to Hong Kong, and his nephew/adoptive son Lam Cho is still going strong at 98 years young.
For further information, call Mak Sifu directly at 9183 3379, or email him at lck486001@yahoo.com.hk. You can find out more about him and the style at his website, www.hungkuenhk.com.
Hung Kuen is a fun form of self-defence and fitness, and also provides a solid basis for film fight choreography. Come and get dangerous on the docks.
