i'm going back to memphis

First a few pics

Leno and Letterman had such rad hair then. The pic is from this piece from NY Mag. Great read if you're familiar with the late night wars. Personally, I prefer Conan over both.

Oh yeah... Woody and Wesley in the back behind Jordan and Pip.

via hypebeast:

To celebrate Michael Jordan’s official induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, iconic graffiti artist and founder of the Obey brand, Shepard Fairey has created this poster of Jordan dunking. Fairey is to produce a series of similar posters, each of which will revisit the best moments of Jordan’s career, which should make for a memorable commemoration of the perhaps the greatest baller ever.

now to the main event--

ESPN Headline:

Allen Iverson announced Wednesday, via his Twitter account, that he expects to sign with Memphis.

Not gonna be the last time a major news outlet break stories with Twitter as source. Technically, AI broke the story himself.

Twitter Festival in HK this Saturday. I think it's called Twestival or something.

Iverson... I'm torn on him. I admire him as a player so much because of his heart but the fact is you can't build a championship team around someone like him--an undersized shoot-first guard who don't make others better.

In fact, most players of that type are not only not helping, they hurt the team. See Ben Gordon, Jamal Crawford, Gilbert Arenas, etc. Iverson was already a miracle.

Whatever. This isn't about him the athlete. It's about Iverson the man. ESPN's 30 on 30, I'm hearing the documentary on Iverson is the harddest hitting one. We'll see just exactly how much he went through just to make it to the league. From his days of growing up in the ghetto to the heavy racism he faced from the jury as a teen over his participation in a brawl to other troubles with the law.

Iverson also set the tone for bringing hip hop into mainstream sports culture. He's probaby the first person to bring hip hop culture outside of the hip hop music bubble. Nowadays seeing guys with rows and tats on national TV is common. But when Iverson started getting ink and braiding his hair in 98, people were stunned--the league actually airbrushed his tattoos off the promotional posters that year. Think it would happen in today's word? Hell no people would cry racism/discrimination.

Anyway, I would continue to blog but I'm tired. I am absolutely beat from my nonstop working lately.

Burning out. Physically.

Heart ain't ever gonna burn out. Sally can waittttttttt
