I'd like to thank everyone for all their well wishes and helpful advice with regards to my "little (big) friend" on my mug recently. Luckily, the "hole" is gone, and I can work again without having to use the props like I recently did for this shoot for DA MAN men's fashion magazine...
2009 has been a most interesting year for me and probably most artists here in Singapore. Work's been rather slow, and I think the recent economic downturn has certainly affected the local media industry. I find myself with a lot more time to come up with "alternate routes" in ways to not only stay busy but also stay fulfilled. I have always thought the entertainment industry is simple..."Either you work hard or you hardly work." And when "hardly working" becomes the norm over an extended period of time, you really need to dip back into your ole bag of tricks and see what else you can conjure up.
Earlier this week, my management company called a meeting for the artistes to convene and address the slowdown in work recently. It was a great chance for everyone to get together and catch up. Some of the artists in attendance included Li Lin, AnD artiste Elizabeth Tan, Hanson Lee, Irene Ang, AnD artiste Mindy Ong, and Chua Enlai...
Li Lin's been busy working on developing a new resistance training band called Loopz, and it should be well positioned to take Singapore's health and fitness market by storm. I will be sure to get involved once it's all up and running cuz this simple contraption really works! Here she is chilling with AnD artiste Jimmy T and Bobby Tonelli...
Jimmy T's been dedicating a lot of time to bringing the sport of wrestling to the forefront here in Singapore for the Youth Olympic Games next year. Bobby just finished filming a new local TV drama on Channel 5 called Fighting Spiders.
And what have I been doing? Good question.
I have spent some more time this year developing several production concepts. The first one addresses the issue of childhood obesity due to the inactive and sedentary lifestyle of many youths today. As much fun as children have watching TV, playing Sony Playstation or X-Box, surfing the Internet, etc., they still need to go out and get their sweat on. For this show, think The Biggest Loser meets Shaq's Big Challenge. Too many people nowadays are not spending enough time exercising and staying healthy. By the time these unfit youths become adults, it's become an uphill battle the rest of their lives. Therefore, I think it would great to introduce a program to highlight childhood obesity and encourage young people to learn about nutrition and get in shape.
Along with the concept dealing with out-of-shape kids, my other concept centers around celebrities kicking the crap outta each other. Think Celebrity Deathmatch meets The Contender Asia meets Fightquest. There is no rocket science to this formula, and we already had a mock trial run at my "birthday bash" last year (I think that blog is still up here at AnD). Simply put, I would like to get a bunch of artists together to learn a martial art and then spar with one another. In Singapore, I've already spoken to various artists including Adrian Pang, Gurmit Singh, Pierre Png, Julian Hee, Tay Ping Hui, Christopher Lee, Edmund Chen and others who are "verbally" game to kick some butt...or get their butt kicked! Even some female artists such as Jaymee Ong, Melody Chen, and Elizabeth Tan. Of course, if this idea really takes off, I have even thought about going "regional" with it and having artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines take part. Maybe even get some of our favorite (and not-so-favorite) TARA contestants from the past seasons in the mix?
Now, do you think you would wanna watch something like this? Or have I conceived something too far outside the "box" to have celebrities get in the ring and box? Either way, let me know if you have any suggestions or comments for a potential great program concept with high entertainment value!
