It has been years since I've been to a fancy dress party. It has even been longer years since I've been to a Halloween fancy dress party.......!!! I had wondered if I would ever do it again and it would take a lot to get me to be dressing up........... I guess the opportunity to attend the biggest party in town, Dead Not Alive Halloween Party at Hyde was just enough convince me to don a costume.....................
To be honest, I kinda was actually looking forward to dressing up as Kato from The Green Hornet. Mainly the fact, I had auditioned for the role back when they were finding a replacement for Stephen Chow (when he dropped out from the Michel Gondry/Seth Rogen picture). I obviously missed out on the role (to Taiwanese superstar, Jay Chou) but Halloween gave me the perfect excuse to dress the part at least, and maybe kick a bit of ass...............
Dead not Alive Party I was rather self-concious making my way to Lan Kwai Fong via MTR, as I never had left my home in a costume before traveling on public trasport. Even without my hat and mask, dress in my suit and with hair slicked to the side I feared some drunk 'patriotic' bigot (who indulged a bit too much of Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen, Ip Man etc.) might mistaken me for some Japanese student and I'd be asking for a beating.......... Thankfully, here in Hong Kong, walking around in a costume or crazy outfits is quite the norm..... Regardless of Halloween or not. So once I arrived in TST area headed for LKF, I blended in quite with the crowd....
The Dead not Alive Party took placeat Hyde Nightclub, just the west of Lan Kwai Fong. I arrived there at approximately 9:20pm and the place was just about slowly warming up.
Being a relative newbie to these AnD events and party functions, I found just about the prefect company in Sean Tierney, one who seldomly attends such party scene.
I have been following Sean's blogs and reviews for quite some time, and he never fails to entertain me! Even some of his harshest (but mostly true.....) comments on my ultimate idol Donnie Yen manages to have me in stitches of laughter!! I'm delighted to say Sean is just as funny and witty in person, and quite a nice charming fellow also. We had some great conversations and in the course of the night we somewhat became one anothers wingman.
As the night went on, more familiar faces Grace-d the party scene..........
The 'Wonder-ful Woman' herself, Grace Huang.
Freddy Krueger makes a scary enterance...........
................ Only the true face of Freddy is ultra nice guy and talented musician, Jun Kung.
Grace with her lovely lady friends.................
Alan with these luvie 'ladies'................
G.I. Sean with actor/host, Desmond So (as character from one of my favourite snack, Nissin Doll noodles ).
'Mister T' in da house, Simon Yin himself! I see Simon avoid any controversial route in dressing as B. A. Baracus..............
The party was really kicking off and the club was extemely jam packed eventually you would have to fight for breathing space............
........... But nothing the clones of Bruce Lee can't handle!!!
I was happy my Kato outfit went down a treat with other guests there, and majority of people actually recognizing it as Kato from
The Green Hornet as opposed to Donnie Yen's recent incarnation of Chen Zhen in
Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen (where he suddenly dons the Kato outfit.......
).
Speaking of Donnie Yen, I was quite flattered though that few people actually thought I was the main man himself!! What really made my night, I was approached by a young gentleman by the name of Darrell who asked about my outfit and wanted to take a picture with me. He turns out to be a close friend of Donnie and his wife, Cissy!!! Said Donnie will get a real kick out of the picture because of our resemblance!!!!!
Eventually my partner in crime, Sean had to call it a night due this is bright young age he says. So I was left to fend for myself only for it wasn't easy to find any familiar faces in the conjested club or the official AnD party was held in some mysterious V.I.P. area I don't know........ Either way I did my best to mingle with the strangers I met throughout the course of the night............
I eventually called it a night by 1:45am to make my long journey home (long because I'm still unfamiliar where I am going in Hong Kong........ ). It was a pleasure to finally meet with the likes of Phlip Ng, Patrick Lee, Andrew Ng, and many many others I have spoken through AnD on numerous occasions. Oh and I got to take home a prize from a special draw.
AnD City of Nites poker cards. Freebies are always good.....
So the Dead not Alive Halloween Party was a blast and enjoyable night. Looking forward to the next one already..........
But for today is officially Halloween............. I think it is just gonna be a night in of horror movies marathon..............
Happy Halloween everyone!!!!!!!!!
Peace & Best Wishes,
Alan
