Last day of Memorial Day weekend and last post about killing people.
In the face of natural disasters like tornadoes and earthquakes and tsunamis and floods - the loss of life is felt by everyone deeply. The victims aren't just numbers, they walk around, do things, breath, people know them. Each person has a value, the scale does not matter.
In the aftermath, people are overwhelmed with passion and the question of "What can I do?"
A bombing raid is not that different than a natural disaster to the attacked - 90% of whom will be civilians.
I would like to simply suggest that there is something that can be done. Someday your government will begin to market a war to you - it might even be another country's war, but the marketing effort will first begin that it wil seem "necessaryl." Some event will trigger a flood of emotion. You'll start hearing more and more about atrocities or unjustice and the implication will be that you're next. At that point, the necesity will be followed by a campaign that it is "inevitable."
You can stop a disaster simply by not supporting it's creation. You can be the voice that says: "No - those people matter." You can question intentions, you can question the data your being presented, you can avoid being swept up into the bandwagon created by the war marketing efforts simply by remaining true to something you already believe - people matter.
You matter, your sentiment matters. Share it.
