WHY I HAVE NOT "FANNED" ANYONE:
My daily job is basically to evaluate people's talents and hire them onto projects. Basically every year I hire well over a hundred artists to work on various projects. One might think it's really great because you get to hand money to talented artists. But on the flip side, that means that I'm not hiring many times more than the number I do hire. It's a tough thing to do when you're surrounded by creative people who need work because sometimes people you like are just not the right person for the job. What is even harder is when people are consistently not right for the work or you can see someone who has a barrier in their creative path - I feel obligated to offer suggestions which are critical in order fo help the artist break a barrier or prepare for a new journey - and this usually doesn't go over very well either because people don't like criticism - even when it's constructive - even when you stick around to pick up the pieces and offer your help and support.
Anyway - so when I thought about being a fan of some artists - the first thing I thought of was "well, then who am I NOT a fan of" and suddenly I felt like this was just more work - so I decided to not fan anyone. I hope people understand I just like going somewhere (alivenotdead) where I don't have that kind of pressure. I really do enjoy a lot of the artists work from the site though.
That said - I'm finally going to start adding friends... I've been a little lazy about that. But I felt like I needed some logic to it (so I don't turn this into "myspace") - so I figure anyone I've hung out with twice must be a friend. And so... today I will start adding people, if we've hung out two or three times and I've not added you - send me a note!
The one exception to this rule is if you're a female who is secretly in love with me despite never meeting me in person. :)
...Sometimes I just write things for my own amusement.
