US movie review: "Up"

Last Wednesday I went to see 'Up' in English and 3D at IFC.  It was funny, I ran into not one, not two, but three different unrelated people I knew who were at the same screening.  It appears there's a lot of demand for the English version and not a lot of places in town showing it. (for most animated movies they dub cantonese versions (since little kids can't read subtitles).  Its interesting because they don't do dubbing for almost any other kind of movie or TV here....)As far as 'Up' goes:  The movie is pretty good, as you can expect.  Typical Pixar deal - very good quality production, good character design, good voice acting, some nice laughs sprinkled in. story which appeals to kids but also has enough to keep adults interested.I can't get too excited by it to give a 9, so I'll give it a 8/10.Did you guys notice that the fat kid is supposed to be Asian American?  I didn't... :-P

Help me out with a memory problem: Did the kid say his DAD or Phyllis promised to be at the final badge ceremony? I did in fact ask Vickie who the Chinese lady sitting with Doug the Dog was. But wait; is he really supposed to be AA? Phyllis isn't his Mom... AAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

sean - it was supposed to be his dad, but since he has a deadbeat dad, this grumpy old white man has to fill in in his place. very typical of asian families I am told. :-P

I saw it in Chinese. Halfway through the movie, I realized the kid's Chinese and realized also that perhaps I had not noticed it before because he had been speaking Chinese the whole time! Wonder if I would have realized if I had watched the film in English... In the Chinese version, even the text on the scrapbook is in Chinese. Hollywood flicks ain't just subtitles anymore!
