When can this Skatepark be opened?

The new Skatepark at On Lok Mun road in Fanling, built by Convic.com, cost HK$51 million to build. Its a beautiful state-of-the-art skatepark. The park has already been completed, but the LCSD think it is “Dangerous” & are not willing to open it just yet until they can figure out how to “manage” the park.

The LCSD thinks that the existing rules for the Lai Chi Kok Skatepark in Mei Foo don’t apply to this park, because they think its ‘more dangerous’.

The existing skate park rules are simple; you enter at your own risk, knowingly entering a skatepark & partaking in a known high risk activity. You are reminded to wear the necessary protective equipment & be aware of others. Generally, rules similar to these are adopted in skateparks all around the world.

Now, the LCSD thinks that the general public, meaning people who aren’t familiar with skateboarding / new skaters will get a skateboard, enter the park, hurt themselves & then sue the LCSD. So they are thinking of ways to prevent this & this includes putting up signage on all the obstacles or closing off sections of the park. Its completely ridiculous.

If you are a skater in Hong Kong, please show your support to get this park opened ASAP by joining our Facebook groups, HKSBC & HK Skateboarding to voice your views. Or, simply email enquires@lcsd.gov.hk & ask them when the skatepark will be opened & why they aren’t opening it. HK$51 million skatepark is just sitting there baking in the sun.”
