Alien Workshop has always been very unique in their board designs. They aren’t very dark or bright in styling. Its more articulate and very mysterious & seems to have some deeper hidden meaning. Their board graphics are definitely iconic skateboard art masterpieces.
The art in their ads, videos & graphics have always intrigued me. Their first video, Memory Screen, was very trippy & had very cool editing techniques that was far ahead of their time. For over 20 years now, this look & aesthetic, has become the heritage of Alien Workshop.
Mike Hill, one of the original founders of Alien Workshop, is the creative mind behind the look & feel of Alien Workshop. Recently, Vans Syndicate released Mike Hill’s Mint Vanilla Authentic as well as the Sk8-hi Boot, which have a number of detail features influenced by Mike’s favorite Cabelaboots.
There is so much detail in these Sk8-hi boots, with a work-boot aesthetic, but still totally skate-able. Vans Syndicate & Mike Hill created an amazing Vans Classic Shoe which is one of the best Vans releases to date, must have shoe in your collection especially if you appreciate the art of Mike Hill.
In the box, there is a rubber sheet of stamps, featuring some of the most iconic art. This will be my weekend DIY project!
The Sk8-hi’s also come in a mint green shoe bag, with Vans Syndicate & Sovereign Sect detailing.
The Vans Syndicate x Mike Hill Sk8-Hi Boot & Alien Workshop decks are exclusively available at 8Five2 Shop in Hong Kong.
To know more, there is an amazing interview with Mike Hill here where Mike Hill talks about the inspiration & ideas behind his shoe designs. Highly recommended read!
