Took a twenty minute ride to cyberport like any other weekend today, it is a recent developed commercial office site at the remote south of hong kong island. I went there to see the movie 10,000 BC, which was somewhat close to my expectation- not worth writing a review on. My friend asked me before the movie,'will the characters be speaking in english?' 'Hell no,' i defended, 'this is 10,000 BC! I m walking out of here if they do.' To my utter disappointment, right from the beginning the narrator and all characters spoke english, they even act a little american, and surely, the whole epic adventure that results in many brutal deaths all revolves around nothing but to save 'the girl with blue eyes'. There is a great quote from Rotten Tomatoes,'the characters may speak English, but the narrative is gibberish.' This blog however, is not written to punish such idiocy, it is for something else, something far more dangerous than the sabertooth and giant head ostriches from 10,000 BC.
After the movie i went to pick up the car, in order to exit the car park, there are a couple sharp cornered ramps to go through. As i was approaching, there was a split second hesitation in my head thinking,' gee what a hazard this is if some reckless decide to speed right through the bend and...' The thought wasnt even over when this reckless lady over took a merc by crossing to the opposite lane, sped right across the front of me and left off without slowing. Everything happened in just a split second. We could have definitely crashed into each other if i didnt think what i did. I was at first, in awe, then furious. So furious I pulled the car aside and decided to go confront such recklessness. i was cheered on by a couple senior citizens,' you go tell her!' they shouted. So i did, of course restrained to the most civilised way. I stood and waited till she finished parking, she saw me, she rolled down the window. I told her off with stuff like 'whats the hurry that was reckless driving' and 'you should never drive like this again, at this rate you can easily get others and yourself killed!' Her attitude and reason was equally unacceptable, without any remorse she blurted, 'were u in the merc or the bm(short for bmw)? that merc was way too slow, i m sorry about that okay?' Not at all impressed with such behaviour, i pressed on, but only with mannered words. After realising the confronter is actually harmless, she gathered her balls and got out of the car, and retorted,' i think i had enough of you telling me off,' before she strolled away. I took a note of her car number, and left the premise. What else could i do?
What i learnt from this incident, besides from to always be alert on the road, and besides from you never know when ever and where ever the reckless pops out, is that we were very lucky today. But in a split second, anything can happen.
