A while ago I posted a pic of a lone man protesting against racism in Melbourne. Well, here he is. :) Belated article. Very interesting perspective from a citizen of a different walk of life. The article uses "immigrant", but that's a bit sneaky of 'em.. the man's a citizen and most Aussies are immigrants.
One might argue that it's classism, but as an Aussie citizen from my own family can attest to, you could experience this even as an all-round High-Distinction Law student (now a barrister and I don't mean the kind that makes coffee LEL) with a masters of communication from a top local Uni.. native English speaker with an IELTS score of 9.. but with a face like mine <3 I'm only stating these so you understand the implications of singling that one student out for double-marking over an honest, minor grammatical typo.. then threatening, over a period of time, to mark them down if they didn't take up the "recommendation" for extra "English lessons" o.0 I kid you not xD
Don't worry she shut them down real good with support from her lovely peers (who were not marked for grammar and were outraged on her behalf - awesome Aussies <3<3), but point is she shouldn't even have had to deal with that level of shit. I've my own run-ins but they're a bit dated, yawn. Both of us ooze confidence and aren't exactly the 'sensitive to comments' kind so I can tell you it's gotta be experienced to be believed.. lol. Tbh, it's so obvious it exists, people should just admit it and we'll get it fixed up together already! rofl~ No shame in that, we've all gotta start somewhere. Honesty's a good place to begin the climb. ^5 Jafri Katagara U doin' good.
