This is basically the unicorn of Jet Li pictures. If you didn’t know, Jet Li’s third film was “Martial Arts of Shaolin,” a sequel to his first and second films (“Shaolin Temple” and “Kids from Shaolin”).

They’re really Jet Li’s onlyold school films and were the only movies of his released under the Shaw Brothers umbrella.

The third film got a new director and choreography: the legendary Lau Kar Leung.

Lau Kar Leung had, up until this point, directed a slew of iconic films - “The 36th Chamber of Shaolin,” “Eight Diagram Pole Fighter,” “Martial Club,” “Heroes of the East” etc. - and decided to update his traditional choreography to encompass Jet’s wushu background.

My point is that while you can find photos of Jet and Jackie, Jackie and Sammo, Jackie and Lau Kar Leung, Donnie Yen and Yuen Woo Ping etc, finding a photo of Lau Kar Leung and Jet Li together is nearly impossible. I think I’ve only ever seen three or four of them.

Seeing them on set, in promotional material? Never. I think this is the first I’ve ever seen.

They never worked together again after that film and, as far as I know, Jet didn’t attend Lau Kar Leung’s funeral last year.
