“Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.”

Oscar WildeI have always enjoyed drawing influences from art, and two artists in particular helped incite my curiosity with painting from the beginning of my pencil explorations.

During my art / fashion education I further explored both of these unique styles to produce capsule fashion collections and illustrations, and I felt each was worth revisiting in order to provide you all with some new bloggage fodder.

  1. Degas- never fails to captivate my eye with his beautiful dancers and in this new illustration I wanted to mix it up with the pose drawn from his famous bronze statue  (The Little Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer 1879-80), the style from one of his many pastel studies (Dancer Adjusting Her Slipper 1873), and the dress as worn by the gorgeous Ms Cara G at the ISHK opening night. (serious outfit envy - have been looking for an excuse to put it into a drawing ever since!)Here it is entitled 'DegasDoris'2. Picasso - Im not going to bore you all with a long winded passage about the ingenious of this well known artist, nor how he shaped and led an art movement blah blah blah.I just like how bizarre his shizzle is, especially the eyes...So here's my ode to the master, entitled 'WispyPicassoDoris'
