300,000 Thank Yous

My blog has just passed 300,000 visits. Which astonishes me since I can hardly imagine that anyone outside of a small circle of friends would care about what I write. It also confuses me, too. Not as an issue of self-esteem, but as a matter of logic.The Alivenotdead blog management page allows me to see how many times a given entry is visited. So I get to see which posts are most ‘popular.’ And frankly, it’s confusing.Let’s look at movie reviews. These are probably the thing I am most known for.The weird thing is that the hit count doesn’t reflect my own views in terms of either best films or best reviews (those are usually for the worst films). The rest I would vigorously recommend .My favorite film of the last couple years, Gallants, has 943 views. I don’t care if you read the review, but please watch the DVD!Same goes for The Drunkard (619 views). My own favorite reviews have rather paltry (in comparison) views. My most vitriolic review, found here, has only 654 views.My review for a filmthat would win a lifetime award for Most Infuriating, where I compare the film to an unhygienic bifurcate hermaphrodite date rapist, has only 246!Outside of movie reviews, my views tend to drop precipitously, with the odd surprise here and there.My account of Christmas dinner with a former #1 AV star in Tokyo has less than 500 views.Several blogs have broken into the 4-figure realm, though sometimes it is hard to wonder why.I’m glad that my post about starting to build the mini-guitar has almost 1400 views.In an odd instance of synergy, my only response to knowing this entry has 1729 views is the same as the title!But here’s the real shocker. For reasons I can neither understand nor discover, my #1 blog entry, which has 13,102 views, is about how women abuse their own feet. I imagine someone who gets real traffic must have linked to it, because the view count is so out of proportion to anything else that I can’t imagine it happening otherwise.So who knows? Certainly not me. I’m just very, very grateful to the people who read my blog and leave comments, either here or on Facebook.
