(New Straits Times: March 9, 2008)
So I managed to borrow my aunt’s car this afternoon for a grocery run. For groceries that would normally cost no more than CDN 60, it cost almost RM180. I didn’t buy anything extraordinary either (except for my Durian Cake, which I’ll gladly blog about later) just the generic, chicken fillets, romaine, cheese, bread, pasta, pasta sauce, Ben n Jerry’s. I knew that if I didn’t start buying groceries, I’d have to deal with starvation. You see, in my home, there is an abundance of Maggi Mee and random chili spices and powders belonging to my aunt…so that doesn’t really work out for me cuz I cook like a white girl. I only use non-stick pans and butter on everything.
Now fast forward to Sarah now: health-conscious and active. I can’t buy a million stacks of Lean Cuisine or Michelinas because Malaysia just doesn’t have any instead, I stocked up with TWO papayas and Omega 3 Eggs! A friend of mine suggested i cut back on salt intake as well, as low-sodium diets are just as good for u as low-carb and low-fat diets! Like my recent article in the papers, its about the 80/20 rule. 80% of my list was healthy, the other 20% being durian cake and white chocolate fingers was not-so-healthy for my binging nights.
I just made myself a grilled cheese sandwich using multi-grain bread with a side of scrambled Omega 3 eggs. ALL without the use of oil! I’m going to reward myself latter on with durian!
