Last Sunday, I celebrated Fathers Day with Teja and her Papa. I’d like to think i’m the cina daughter he never had. We dined at Las Carretas in Damansara for some festive Mexican and Papa Saleh reminisced stories of his days as a Foreign Exchange Student in Oregon in the late 60s. Its kinda cool to hear about other people’s experiences that have made them who they are today.
As a treat for her family, she took them to Uptown Durians (it was actually a treat for me too!!) Papa Saleh was so excited telling me about how we were going to eat the Raja Kunyit, King of Durians. As i took a bite, I know that this no-nonsense durian was oddly familiar. Oh yes, I remember paying more than RM80 for one of these suckers before… its the Mao Shan Wong. I guess i wasn’t familiar with its Malay name.
This beautiful beast fed the three of us and then some, but I felt like we didn’t do it justice. Next time durian, I’ll get you again next time! Ngeh ngheh ngeh
